New construction here hands you graded fill and nothing else. We confirm the grade moves water away from the slab, break the compaction, set bed lines with steel edging, and install irrigation before a single plant goes in.
The standard build is front-yard desert landscaping with a shade tree placed for the afternoon sun, structural agave and red yucca, and seasonal color from lantana and desert marigold against decomposed granite.
Wind comes with the territory
The north valley catches wind with very little to slow it. Loose gravel spread thin over unedged ground migrates within a season, so we install decomposed granite at proper depth over a compacted base with edging on every bed line, and we stake young trees correctly until they anchor.
Irrigation set up right the first time
It costs far less to build a low-water yard than to retrofit one. Zoned drip irrigation with a smart controller goes in with the first planting, grouped so plants with matching water needs share a valve and nothing is watered on somebody else’s schedule.

Grade and drainage, then irrigation, then structure and planting. Rock and plants installed over bad grade is money you spend twice.
Why does my gravel keep blowing into the street?
Almost always depth and edging. Decomposed granite needs adequate depth over a compacted base and a hard edge at every bed line, or wind and runoff move it.
How fast does a new desert yard fill in?
The hardscape structure reads as finished immediately. Plantings generally look established through the second and third growing seasons.
